This Is My Story. 

My career path might seem a bit unconventional. After graduating in Development Studies in 2019, I'd earned top marks and a scholarship. You might think I'd have aimed for a career with a big international aid organisation, but that wasn't for me. I'd seen firsthand how institutionalised aid can perpetuate dependency rather than fostering real change.
So, I pivoted to something I'd always enjoyed: editing. Throughout university, friends would ask me to proofread their papers, and I found myself editing countless theses and cover letters. Hoping for a more fulfilling role, I took a position with a US-based company's German content team, writing marketing copy. It quickly became clear that this wasn't the change I was looking for.
I decided to go freelance. My first project involved writing blog posts and web copy for a leading CBD marketplace. From there, I moved into a mix of translation, blogging, SEO content, and content management for German businesses, many in the «wellness» sector. But something was missing. 
I felt like I was just adding to the online noise without making a real difference. That's when I realised what truly mattered to me: helping others share their stories.
Self-publishing offers a fantastic opportunity if you don't fit the traditional publishing mould, if you have valuable insights to share but maybe don't have a huge budget, or simply haven't published before. You have important things to say, and you shouldn't be held back because you don't have 10k to invest in a publishing project or because you're not a known name—yet.
